A Playlist for Hustlers

City life, big city lights.

I was told: why don’t you make a playlist for the theme “City”?

Truly, this was easier said than done.
It’s absolutely impossible for me to figure out what about the city has shaped my taste in music. I’ve always lived in cities, I do not know anything other. I’m glad I don’t need to write about farm life, because I fear we would be close to nowhere right now.

As I was brainstorming ideas for this theme, I brushed over the different artists I played that day. I realized I listened to so many different genres that had absolutely nothing in common. This chaotic mess of musical madness represented the disorder that is a city. People running around and freaking out.

I consider myself a city person, and happily so.
The gentle humming of the garbage truck, is what puts me to sleep. The fast paced, got-to-get-moving clutter that’s everywhere, is my elixir. That being said, if you do not get with the pace of a city, you will get crumpled up into a ball, like a piece of paper.

A while ago, I made a playlist for my friend. He told me he was going to have one of those days where things needed to happen, people need to be places and decisions needed to be made. You feeling me on that kind of day? I thought this was the most fitting time and place to showcase this playlist.

In a city of running jewels, Xzibit and Elton John bumped into Wyclef Jean and Etta James, who were hanging out and rolling stones. They decide to all go to a show together, to see Hot Chip. The Jamaican Queens were the opener, and then Marvin Gaye made an appearance….anyways, the story goes on.
