Melodic Autumn Series: October

The month of October has seen many things, from the American government shutdown commencing on its’ very first day, to the death of the legendary Lou Reed, a loss that put the entire music world into mourning only two days ago, there’s a lot to be said about the past four weeks… Being that this is a music podcast, however, there well be a little less talking and a little more listening… Which can be good at times…

This Autumn playlist harbors a little bit of spook in honour of the spirit of Halloween. If you’ve been feeling the pull and tug of time or the settling-in of cold chills, at least you can take solace in the fact that you can put all of that to rest on the day that the dead cease to rest… Here to satisfy your spooky needs, are Dead Man’s Bones, whose music curates almost specifically to the Halloween season, Aquarius Heaven, for those in the mood of a more steamy kind of spooky, and Art Department, for those who fancy a taste of spine-chilling electronic music.

In memory of Lou Reed, the playlist begins and ends with one the most influential voices in rock and roll history – beginning with a track from his solo career and ending with an eerie drug-dosed Velvet Underground wonder.

For a little bit of a mood lift-up, listen to Panama’s song “Always” – a heartwarming and catchy tune from the faithful Down Under. And speaking of the Down Under, another track worth checking out is Say Lou Lou’s cover of a Tame Impala hit – a perfect homage to the great Australian psychedelic rock band. Notable as well, are Flume’s new track (I really can’t get enough of him), both songs from Ta-Ku’s new album “Songs To Break Up To,” and those by Mosco, the brand new (and I believe unsigned?) alternative-rock band from the UK.

Get It – Cam Meekins

Imagine – G side

Morcheeba - Release Me Now (new song!)

Heroin – The Velvet Underground (pugs not drugs, guys, seriously…)
