October 3rd - Cyril Hahn x Ryan Hemsworth x Henry Krinkle @ Velvet ($25)
This Thursday, three names that have been making a lot noise recently will be playing at the Velvet nightclub in the Vieux Port. What they have in common is their masterful combining of samples from different genres to create majestic and sensual textures that are sure to spellbind you. Cyril Hahn came into the spotlight with his remix of Destiny Child’s ‘Say My Name’, Ryan Hemsworth released a mesmerizing EP ‘Still Awake’ earlier this year, and Henry Krinkle simply has the knack to turn any song into gold. The subterranean décor of the Velvet will be the perfect atmosphere for the steamy synthpopy house that these guys will undoubtedly deliver.
October 5th – Clarian @ Kanalbar ($10)
For its first Boogie Night, Graphite is proud to be hosting Canadian producer Clarian North, in partnership with the Plateau Boogie, a Montreal-based student DJ residency. Clarian recently released his first solo EP, ‘Chemical Gardens’, on the respected Visionquest label. His collaboration with Guy Gerner, ‘Claire’, is haunting yet uplifting. His abyssal beat is sure to keep heads bopping compulsively all night. Head to our Facebook page for more information regarding the event.
October 9th - Gold Panda @ SAT ($18.50)
Hailing from the UK, but currently based in Berlin, Gold Panda has been collaborating and producing prolifically these past couple of years. He exploded into the electronic music scene in 2010, with his first EP ‘Lucky Shiner’ receiving the prestigious Guardian’s First Album award the same year. This past June he released his first LP ‘Half of Where You Life’ to great critical acclaim. The eclecticism of the genres, from the techno beat of ‘Brazil’ to the melancholic trip-hop vibe of ‘Flinton’, is what makes the album really stand out for me. The SAT’s incredible visual displays will be the perfect complement to the organic, crystalline overtones of Gold Panda’s music.
October 15th - Bonobo @ Metropolis ($28)
Bonobo shows a complete disregard for the boundaries of electronic music, cheekily sampling from a variety of genres to create a deeply emotional and fractured two-step beat. His last album, ‘North Borders’, tastefully combines vocals (including the legendary Erykha Badu) with downtempo melodies. Songs such as ‘Jets’ or ‘Cirrus’ maintain that silky, ethereal quality for which the British producer became known with his first LP ‘Black Sands’. Bonobo is a semi-regular visitor to the Metropolis already and knows exactly what candy to feed your ears, so this one is a sure bet.
October 19th - Hot Since 82 @ Stereo ($25)
This Leeds based DJ and producer recently released his debut album on Noir Music, and has blasted into the house music scene, collaborating alongside Jamies Jones and Joris Voorn to name a couple. Hot Since 82’s beat is sexy, sunny and menacing all at once. He delivers an orthodox yet well crafted four to the flour stomper designed to push a sweaty nightclub hard into the next day. Conveniently, that’s also what Stereo afterhours, open between 1am and 10am, is best known for.
